13-year-old suspect arrested after allegedly stealing iPhone, wallets at Eaton’s Beach

A 13-year-old was arrested after he allegedly stole two wallets and an iPhone on Sunday at Eaton’s Beach.

Two juvenile males left their wallets and the iPhone tucked in shoes and covered with shirts on the beach, according to an arrest report from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. When they returned, the wallets and iPhone were gone.

The owner of the iPhone activated the Find My iPhone app and got several pings at an address in Belleview.

The juveniles’ parents contacted law enforcement.

A deputy went to the address in Belleview and met with the 13-year-suspect and his mother, who turned over the iPhone and granted permission for the deputy to interview her son. He said he took $4 from each of the wallets and then threw them at the beachfront. He said he kept the iPhone.

The 13-year-old was arrested on a charge of grand theft and booked at the juvenile facility at the Marion County Jail.
