16-year-old ticketed in collision with semi hauling Coca-Cola on Interstate 4

A 16-year-old was ticketed in a collision at 5:06 a.m. Thursday with a semi hauling Coca-Cola on Interstate 4 in Hillsborough County.

Hailey Ruiz of Plant City was driving a 2012 Chevy Avalanche which was westbound on I-4 at Mile Marker 22 when she lost control of the vehicle which traveled into the median, rotated, returned back across all westbound lanes and collided with a trailer towed by a semi driven by 26-year-old Michael Green, also of Plant City, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

The collision forced the trailer onto its right side where it came to rest in the inside and center lanes, the report said. Coca-Cola products transported by the tractor-trailer remained contained within the trailer.

Ruiz, Green and a passenger in Ruiz’s vehicle, 7-year-old Oriyela Joseph of Plant City, all escaped serious injury.

Ruiz was ticketed on a charge of careless driving.
