The Virginia Trace Thursday Ladies Golf group collected $500 for the So Zo Kids Club of the Ocala National Forest.
Gail Hood of the ladies golf group presented the check to David Houck, director of SoZo Kids, at the Arnold Palmer Country Club.
Houck, director of SoZo Kids, said he has been working with children living in the Ocala Forest for more than 20 years.
He said he is working to bring them out of poverty through education. SoZo, a Hebrew word meaning “rescue”, has established mentoring centers, food banks, and summer camp (Camp SoZo) for these children. Houck said many of the children live without electricity and running water, and all are exposed to drugs and abuse, and are at risk of having insufficient education to ever be able to raise themselves out of abject poverty.
