$18-million assisted living and memory care facility coming to Wildwood

Bright Oaks, an $18-million assisted living and memory care facility, is planned along the west side of Powell Road south of Huey Steeet.

The 91-unit facility on 3.7 acres will include about two-thirds assisted living and one-third memory care units, said Michael Sedley of Platinum Real Estate and Property Investments of Chicago.

The center will be about a half block south of the planned site of Rosecastle at Wildwood, a 96-unit assisted living facility supposed to open this fall on the northwest corner of Huey Street and Powell Road. Construction has not begun on Rosecastle.

Before recommending approval of the Bright Oaks project, Wildwood Special Magistrate Archie O. Lowry Jr. questioned when the area would reach a saturation point for these types of facilities.

“We don’t think we’re near that point and there’s quite a bit of need,” Sedley said.

The three-story, 95,718-square-foot facility will include 58 assisted-living beds and 33 memory-care beds. The tentative opening date is December 2016 and the center is expected to have about 250 employees. McLaughlin Construction Co. of Ocala has been hired to build Bright Oaks.

The project will feature out-patient services, retail opportunities, chef-prepared meals, a top-floor porch, gardening areas and a 24-hour nursing staff.

Sedley said his company plans to open three other Florida centers at Fort Myers, Naples and Sun City.

He said the company has built five similar centers in the Chicago area.
