18-year-old arrested with marijuana after traffic stop in front of Peppertree Apartments in Wildwood

An 18-year-old who had been driving in a vehicle swerving on a roadway was arrested Saturday morning on a charge of possession of marijuana.

John Austin Johnson of Summerfield had been traveling at 8 a.m. on State Road 35 in Oxford when his vehicle swerved five times over the white line, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. He appeared “nervous” during a traffic stop in front of Peppertree Apartments in Wildwood.

A K-9 unit arrived on the scene and the dog alerted on Johnson’s vehicle.

A small amount of marijuana was discovered in the vehicle along with a glass pipe. Johnson told a deputy that he had begun smoking marijuana five months ago on his 18th birthday.

He was arrested on charges of possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia and booked at the Sumter County Detention Center.
