A Marion County sheriff’s deputy was traveling southbound on NE 58th Avenue and observed a silver Nissan run a left arrow red light at the intersection of NE 7th Street and travel eastbound, according to an arrest affidavit. The deputy caught up to the Nissan and activated his emergency lights to conduct a traffic stop, the affidavit stated. The Nissan turned north on NE 63rd Avenue then turned west on NE 62nd Terrace, stopping in front of a residence located at 631 NE 62nd Terrace. The deputy made contact with the driver, 20-year-old Zachery Brent Carlozzi of Ocala, and could smell an odor of marijuana coming from inside the Nissan. The deputy requested a K9 in the area to do a drug sniff on the Nissan, which turned up to be positive. Carlozzi was asked if he had any illegal drugs inside his vehicle. He pulled down his visor and handed the deputy a plastic bag containing a green leafy substance that tested positive for marijuana. As the deputy was speaking with Carlozzi, he could smell a moderate odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from Carlozzi’s breath, as well as a marijuana odor on his body. The deputy observed Carlozzi’s eyes to be bloodshot and watery.

Carlozzi stated he smoked marijuana “three to four hours ago” and drank one beer a couple hours before. After failing field sobriety exercises, Carlozzi was arrested. A fellow passenger in Carlozzi’s vehicle was also charged with possession of marijuana for the marijuana he had in his cigarettes.

Carlozzi was transported to Marion County Jail. Bond was set at $1,500.
