Community Development District 7 Vice Chairman and Project Wide Advisory Committee member Ron Ruggeri did not vote in favor of a traffic light at Colony Boulevard.
On Friday, he issued a warning that he believes the light won’t solve the traffic situation.
“In my opinion we are going to have problems,” Ruggeri said.
He said traffic is already backing up on Colony Boulevard to Morse Boulevard.
A pre-bid meeting on the traffic light to be installed at Colony Boulevard is set for 9 a.m. Monday, according to Sam Wartinbee of District Property Management.
The light is to be installed due to heavy traffic between Colony Cottage Recreation Center and Colony Plaza shopping Center.
The traffic and possible solutions have been the topic of considerable discussion over the past several months. At one point, a golf-cart bridge was to be built over Colony Boulevard, but that plan was scrapped in favor of a traffic light.
Since late October, Community Watch personnel have been directing traffic out at the site.
The bid for the light is expected to be awarded at the March 20 meeting of the Sumter Landing Community Development District.
The developer will pay the first $100,000 for the light.
Everything over $100,000 will be paid out of PWAC funds.
