Suspect had tried to lure woman into hot tub

The 69-year-old Village of Hadley man arrested Monday night after firing 33 rounds into a neighbor lady’s house, told a deputy he had a “crush” on the woman.

Howard Sparber was both infatuated and intoxicated, according to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

He had previously tried to lure the woman into a hot tub at his home on Landale Loop, according to an arrest report.

After he had been read his Miranda Rights on Monday night, Sparber told a deputy that he was seeking a relationship with the woman. He also admitted to drinking several alcoholic beverages during the early evening hours just prior to the incident.

It was around 8 p.m. Monday that he went to the woman’s home and fired 33 rounds from his Sig Sauer P226 semi-automatic 9mm handgun.

He was held without bond Tuesday night at the Sumter County Detention Center.

Sparber and his wife bought their Designer home in The Villages in March 2008 for $259,000, according to records with the Sumter County Property Appraiser’s office.

They moved to The Villages from Indianapolis, Ind.

He originally registered as a Democratic with the Sumter County Supervisor of Elections Office, but in October 2015 switched to No Party Affiliation.
