A Community Development District 7 supervisor has expressed concern over a monopole that suddenly popped up along Bonita Boulevard.
CDD 7 Supervisor Bill Vondohlen raised the issue at Thursday morning’s board meeting, but did not get the answers for which he was hoping.
“People have come to me looking for an answer, and I would like to tell them something,” he said.
He was told the monopole went up on “private property,” is used for cell service, but that additional information would have to be obtained from Sumter County.
The monopole is clearly visible from the parking lot of the Community Watch station located at 1135 Bonita Boulevard.
“People are very concerned about it. It’s overlooking their homes,” Vondohlen told Villages-News.com after the meeting. “It’s about three stories tall. They want to know why it is there.”
Sumter County Development Services Director Karl Holley said the monopole was placed on a parcel of land owned by The Villages of Lake-Sumter Inc.
The monopole was approved Feb. 19 by the Zoning and Adjustment Board as a Special Land Use Permit. The applicant for the permit was NexTower Development Group LLC.
“The approval provides for a telecommunications monopole tower of up to 199 feet in height,” Holley said.
The building permit for the tower’s construction was issued on May 1.
