Lady Lake police nab sex offender driving with open liquor, no headlights

John Michael Scholler

Lady Lake police nabbed a sex offender Friday night who was driving with open liquor and no headlights on U.S. Hwy. 27/441.

An officer spotted a gray Nissan at 9 p.m. traveling northbound and initiated a traffic stop at the Sunoco service station at 413 U.S. Hwy. 27/441.

The driver, 49-year-old John Michael Scholler of Weirsdale, admitted he was driving on a suspended license and a check revealed he had nine previous arrests for driving while license suspended. The police officer spotted an open alcohol container in a cup holder in the vehicle and a second open alcohol container on the floorboard under the front passenger seat.

Scholler is a registered sex offender. He was convicted in 1996 of sexual battery in Broward County.

He was taken into custody and booked at the Lake County Jail. He was released after posting $1,000 bond.
