$340,000 for chairlifts at swimming pools ‘political correctness at its worst’

To the Editor:

Purchasing and installing pool chairs at all The Villages pools, is unnecessary at best, and a fumbling act of political correctness at its worst.
For the handful of Villages residents that require the use of these chairs, let the Recreation Department hand-select a small number of pools, geographically spaced apart, to offer these lifts to that small handful of residents. These select pools would be advertised as chair-user friendly, and allow those needing them to gather together to use them.
Purchasing chairs for every pool, when so few require them is an knee jerk, financially irresponsible reaction to satisfy a few who need them. The greater good is to provide some chairs at some pools, determined by distance between them, so know one is inconvenienced, and the majority of us residents don’t incur wasteful costs.
