Longtime Architectural Review Committee member resigns out of ‘frustration’ with non-compliance

Paul Hannan

A longtime member of The Villages’ Architectural Review Committee member has resigned out of “frustration” with non-compliance with deed restrictions.

Paul Hannan, who also serves as a Lady Lake commissioner, has served on the ARC for 15 years. He has represented the Amenity Authority Committee on the ARC, but has tendered his resignation.

My main frustration for so many years is residents’ lack of adhering to their deed restrictions, and inadequate enforcement, more specifically seasonal residents,” Hannan told Villages-News.com.

Hannan’s participation on the ARC dates back to a time when all Villages residents lived north of County Road 466. A resident of the Historic Side of The Villages, Hannan represented the Lady Lake/Lake County portion of The Villages for the ARC.

Serving on the ARC is hardly a ceremonial role. The Wednesday morning meetings each week have been famous for running several hours, during which stacks of applications are reviewed. Efforts have begun to streamline the ARC process.

The AAC on Wednesday agreed to elevate its ARC alternate representative, Villager Judy Glasel, to the primary seat on the ARC. She will take over Hannan’s existing term, which runs through April 30, 2020.

“She has shown an interest, she has done a good job. She has proven herself and is willing to serve,” said AAC Chair Ann Forrester.

Hannan continues to serve on the Lady Lake Commission. His term on that board runs through November 2020.
