A Villager suffered an injury during an encounter with a dog at the Atlas Canine Dog Park on Moyer Loop in The Villages.
The 64-year-old Village of Palo Alto woman had gone to the dog park with her husband and their two small dogs on Jan. 31 where they encountered a beige medium-sized dog that repeatedly jumped up on her. She soon noticed that she had suffered a serious scratch and her hand was “bleeding profusely.”
“She and her husband had trouble restraining the dog and the dog owner did not intervene,” according to an incident report from Lady Lake Animal Control.
The Lady Lake Animal Control officer investigated the case after the woman sought treatment for her injuries at the UNOVA Urgent Care Clinic on Rolling Acres Road. The couple went there directly from the dog park. Her wounds were treated and she was given a tetanus shot.
The woman, who moved to The Villages about six months ago, was warned that if she did not find the dog responsible for her injuries, she might have to undergo a series of rabies shots.
In an interview Thursday with Villages-News.com, the woman said she and her husband have repeatedly returned to the dog park, looking for the dog that had injured her. They haven’t had any luck.
Villages-News.com is not identifying the woman because she is a victim.
