Previous inspections found violations at a Villages restaurant shut down Tuesday for a multitude of health code violations.
Cody’s Original Roadhouse was expected to re-open at 11 a.m. Wednesday after a health inspector on Tuesday ordered the emergency closure of the popular restaurant at Brownwood. The inspector found roaches, flying insects and food at improper temperatures.
Two inspections last year foretold of possible problems at Cody’s restaurant at Brownwood, according to documents on file with the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation.
This past October, an inspector cited a high priority violation after a cook used the bathroom and failed to wash up before returning to duty.
“Employee used the bathroom and then engaged in food preparation, handled clean equipment or utensils, or touched unwrapped single service items without washing hands upon returning to employee area. Cook failed to wash hands before returning to work,” the inspector wrote in the Oct. 15 report.
That same day the inspector found an employee with no hair restraint engaging in food preparation, a kitchen manager eating chips on the cook line and an accumulation of a black/green mold-like substance in the interior of the ice machine. In addition, the floor of the walk-in freezer was soiled, and there was an accumulation of encrusted food debris on/around a mixer head. In all, there were 19 violations found by the health inspector.
One year ago – on Feb. 20, 2018 – a health inspector found four violations at Cody’s at Brownwood.
That day, a server handled soiled dishes or utensils and then picked up plated food, served food, or prepared a beverage without washing up, a high-priority violation. There were no paper towels or hand-drying machine at a station where employees were supposed to wash their hands. There was rust found in a walk-in cooler and equipment and utensils were not properly air dried.
