An anonymous complaint has been lodged against a little white cross on display at a home in The Villages.
Wayne Anderson, who lives at 2439 Ansley Path in the Village of Tamarind Grove, said that an officer from Community Standards visited his home Thursday and issued him a deed compliance reminder.
“I told them I would not be discriminated against and declined to remove my cross,” Anderson said.
He made the same vow last week when he appeared before the Community Development District 8 Board of Supervisors. At that meeting, Anderson argued that the anonymous complaint system that props up the deed compliance system in Florida’s Friendliest Hometown is discriminatory.
Anderson said the Community Standards officer told him he will be summoned to appear before the CDD 8 board thanks to his new violation of the deed compliance rule. He was previously called upon to remove a parrot lawn ornament and little white cross from his yard. That time, he complied.
Anderson said he has been surprised by support in the community for taking a stand. He is even receiving letters in the mail from strangers.
“No one is pleased with this policy,” he said.
