A man was jailed after allegedly attempting to cash a bogus check at a bank in The Villages.
Victor Blanchart, 53, on Wednesday entered the Community Bank & Trust of Florida branch on Parr Drive and attempted to cash a $980 check, which appeared to have been issued by All State Manufactured Housing, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. He showed the teller a fake driver’s license with a false name.
The bank teller concluded the check was fraudulent and notified her manager, who contacted law enforcement. A deputy spotted Blanchart walking away from the bank and took him into custody.
He was arrested on charges of fraud and was also wanted on a Charlotte County warrant charging him with failure to appear.
He was taken into custody and booked at the Sumter County Detention Center.
