Villager arrested after fight with older man in laundry room

Doreen Rousseau-Purdy

A 57-year-old Villager was arrested on a felony charge after a fight with an older man in a laundry room.

Doreen Rousseau-Purdy was booked early Sunday morning at the Sumter County Detention Center on a charge of battery on a person over the age of 65.

A man told Sumter County sheriff’s deputies that Rousseau-Purdy met him in the garage near the laundry room door. He went into the laundry room where Rousseau-Purdy began to “flail her arms in attempts to strike him,” the deputy wrote in the arrest report.

The 67-year-old had suffered a scratch on his right hand, bruising on his left cheek and a scratch on his nose.

Rousseau-Purdy, a native of Syracuse, N.Y., had suffered no visible injuries.
