Driver suffering medical emergency dies after single-vehicle crash in Sumter County

A driver suffering a medical emergency died after a single-vehicle crash in Sumter County.

The 58-year-old Lake Panasoffkee man was driving a van at 5:40 p.m. Saturday southbound on County Road 475, north of County Road 532 West, when he suffered the medical emergency, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

His van entered the east shoulder, he corrected the van back across the roadway and it traveled onto the west shoulder. It then left the roadway and struck several trees.

The man was transported to an area hospital where he died of injuries suffered in the crash.

He had not been wearing a seatbelt, the report noted.
