22-year-old killed in accident in Sumter County

A 22-year-old man was killed in a head-on collision at 4:05 p.m. Monday on State Road 50 in Sumter County.

The man, a resident of Tampa, has not been identified pending notification of next of kin, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

The man’s 2003 Hyundai Sonata was traveling westbound on SR-50 in the area of CR-721 when it traveled into the eastbound lane of SR-50 colliding with a 2010 Lexus driven by Nathani Shaheen, 40, of Clermont. She was transported to Lakeland Regional Hospital with serious injuries.

A passenger in the car driven by the man who was killed, 34-year-old Brian Thomas Foley of Tampa, was also transported to Lakeland Regional Hospital. His injuries were listed as serious.

The 22-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
