A 30-year-old Plant City man was killed in an early morning accident Sunday in Marion County.
Joel Smerkers had been a passenger in a 2005 Dodge Durango driven by Suzana Bici, 23, of Fort McCoy, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol.
She had been attempting to negotiate a curve at 2 a.m. at NE 160th Avenue Road and NE 245th Street Road when she overcorrected and the vehicle overturned. A second passenger, 34-year-old Daniela L. Galvan of Brandon, suffered critical injuries and was transported to Ocala Regional Medical Center. Another passenger, 31-year-old Brian Siders of Brandon, escaped injury.
Bici suffered minor injuries.
The FHP reports indicated that Smerkers and Galvan had not been wearing seatbelts. Bici and Siders had been wearing their seatbelts.
She is facing a charge of DUI manslaughter, the FHP report indicated.
She was booked at the Marion County Jail.
