The possible purchase of 40 acres of land on County Road 42 by the Amenity Authority Committee has been complicated by lack of access.
The AAC is exploring land acquisition for the expansion of recreation opportunities north of County Road 466. Community Development District 4, soon to be home to hundreds of new courtyard villas, is said to be in dire need of additional facilities.
District Manager Janet Tutt said the 40 acres, also known as the Schilling Property, would only be accessible from CR42.
However, AAC members pushed back aggressively against that notion.
AAC member Don Deakin said he had visited the Marion County Growth Services Department and was told there would be additional opportunities for access to the 40 acres which is for sale for $3 million.
AAC member Carl Bell encouraged AAC members and staff to come up with some creative ideas to provide access to the property, should the AAC opt to purchase it.
“I don’t care if you fly a kite over the top of it,” Bell said.
