5-year-old killed after car rearended by SECO bucket truck

A 5-year-old boy was killed Saturday afternoon when the vehicle in which he was a passenger was struck from behind by a SECO bucket truck.

The accident occurred at 3:35 p.m. on U.S. Hwy. 27 at Plantation Boulevard in Lake County, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

The child, Olan Strong of Cookeville, Tenn., was flown to Arnold Palmer Children’s Hospital in Orlando where he was later pronounced dead.

The driver of the car in which he was a passenger, 28-year-old Channing Strong, and another passenger, 29-year-old Lena Strong, both of Cookeville, Tenn., were airlifted to Orlando Regional Medical Center.

The SECO truck was driven by David Raber, 59, of Howey in the Hills. He was transported to Leesburg Regional Medical Center.

The crash remains under investigation and charges are pending, the FHP report indicated.

The report noted that the child had been in a child restraint seat. Channing and Lena Strong were wearing seatbelts.
