A 64-year-old man told Marion County sheriff’s deputies a woman “was exaggerating when she called 911” to report that he allegedly struck her.

Deputies were called Thursday evening to a home in Ocklawaha to investigate the complaint against Charles Bernard Collins. During the 911 call, the woman told a dispatcher Collins had struck her arm. She added that she needed someone there “quick,” according to the arrest report.

When deputies arrived they found the victim on the front porch with a bag of ice on her arm. The report noted she was “extremely drunk.”

Collins was arrested on a charge of battery and initially booked without bond at the Marion County Jail.
