A 72-year-old Stonecrester was arrested after allegedly attempting to steal jewelry at Bealls.

Diane Gail Silverman entered the store on U.S. Hwy. 441 in Lady Lake shortly before noon Thursday, took several pieces of jewelry and concealed them in her purse, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. She then put on some additional jewelry and attempted to walk out of the store. She was stopped by the store’s loss prevention officer. She turned the items over to him. The total value of the merchandise was $175.79.

She was arrested on a charge of petit theft and booked at the Sumter County Detention Center. Bond was set at $1,000.

Silverman had been arrested last year in a suspected purse theft at a store at Lake Sumter Landing. Ultimately, the case was not prosecuted.
