Sumter County sheriff’s deputies were called at 8:47 a.m. Monday to the home of Edward J. Bauersfeld in the Hickory Head Hammock area of The Villages.

Bauersfeld told a deputy that a woman had been acting unusual and was unplugging all of the devices in the house, claiming it was “bugged,” according to an arrest report. He said the woman was about to break their laptop and he pulled it out of her hands and “softly” hit her on the top of the head with it.

The woman then called law enforcement.

Bauersfeld was arrested on a charge of battery and booked at the Sumter County Detention Center where he initially was being held without bond.
