76-year-old man killed in Citrus County accident

A 76-year-old Dunnellon man was killed in an accident at 11:20 p.m. Saturday in Lecanto.

Melvin George Stockum was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

He had been traveling eastbound on SR-44 east of Kensington Avenue in the westbound inside lane, the FHP report indicated.

His vehicle collided with a vehicle driven by Carlos Martin Colon, 44, of Homosassa. He suffered serious injuries and was transported to Ocala Regional Medical Hospital.
