76-year-old Villager jailed without bond on charge of contempt of court

A 76-year-old Villager was being held without bond this weekend on a charge of contempt of court.

Robert Hennessy was arrested Friday by Sumter County sheriff’s deputies.

In January, Hennessy was granted a chance to avoid prosecution in a domestic battery case in which he had been arrested in 2016. He was referred to a pre-trial intervention program. Typically, those programs include criteria such as anger management, but his PTI agreement remains sealed in a Sumter County Court file.

Hennessy had been arrested in November after he had gone to his former home in the Village of Caroline to retrieve belongings for his new residence in the Village of Amelia. He got into an argument with a woman over a picture and a stereo, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. During the course of the argument, he knocked over a lamp which the woman attempted to catch. He then pushed the woman down, causing her skin to split and spill blood onto the floor. Hennessy left before law enforcement arrived on the scene. He was arrested at his home on Emmalee Place on a charge of battery.

Hennessy had also been the subject of a Silver Alert in 2016. You can read more about that HERE
