77-year-old man killed in accident in Columbia County

A 77-year-old man was killed Monday night after his vehicle left the roadway and hit a tree in Columbia County.

Pete Mesa of Lake City had been driving a 2006 Chevy Silverado at 8:30 p.m. Monday on SW Tustenuggee Avenue when his vehicle left the roadway, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol. He was transported to Shands Lakeshore Medical Center were he was later pronounced dead.
