78-year-old bus driver refuses to let rowdy children off Villages Elementary school bus

Police were summoned last week after a 78-year-old school bus driver refused to let rowdy children off the bus.

Officers were called at 4:02 p.m. Nov. 10 to the area of High Street and Longview Avenue where the school bus driver was refusing to let the students from Villages Elementary of Lady Lake off the bus, according to an incident report from the Lady Lake Police Department.

“The kids on the bus had been screaming, not sitting in their seats, moving around on the bus and acting out of control. He advised he had tried to get them to behave and sit in their seats, but could not get them to calm down and behave,” according to the report. He stopped the bus in 800 block of High Street and called the bus lot. He said he was told not to let the children off the bus until police arrived.

The school bus driver admitted he had braked hard when making a turn due to being distracted by the children.

Lake EMS was called to the scene to check on the children. A 9-year-old was transported to Leesburg Regional Medical Center.
