Harold A. “Hal” Butz, Jr., 86, of The Villages, FL, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 28, 2016 with his wife, Nancy, by his side.
Born September 24, 1929 in Newark, NJ, Hal attended the U. S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point-graduating in 1951. He then served as a Naval Officer on a U. S. aircraft carrier, USS Point Cruz, during the Korean Conflict. Following his military service, Hal embarked on a successful 34 year career with the Federal Government in key positions which included: 9 years as a Special Agent in the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Director of the Office of Enforcement and Emergency Services (DOT), and various assignments in the U. S. Dept. of Commerce, and the Federal Energy Administration.
Hal and Nancy relocated to their home in The Villages in the summer of 2004. Embracing his new community and friends, Hal served 3 years as the president of the Chadwick Villas Community Association.
Hal is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Nancy; sons Robert Butz, Harold Butz, III, daughter Kristina Peters and her husband Anthony Peters; his grandchildren; Caroline Peters-Oliveira (Filipe), Zachary Butz and Emily Butz and by his beloved dog Eddie. Hal was preceded in death by his parents; Harold Butz, Sr. and Eleanor Butz, his son, Richard Butz and by his brother, Robert E. Butz.
Celebration of Life will be Saturday, February 6, 2016 between 2 – 5 p.m. at the Butz family home at 8454 SE 177th Roleson Lane, Chadwick Villas, The Villages.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donation be made to either the Ted & Diane Brandley House (of Marion County Hospice) or the Humane Society of Marion County.
