Bernice R. Menges, of Leesburg, FL and formerly of Elmira, NY: Age 89, passed away surrounded by her loving family on February 10, 2016. Bernice was born in Scotia, NY, the daughter of Harold and Kathleen Croshier. She was predeceased by her husband James P. Menges. Bernice is survived by her children, Philip Menges of Elmira, NY with his wife Kathy, and Christine Menges of Tampa, Florida, grandchildren David Menges, of Pittsburgh, PA and his wife Shannon, with great granddaughter Mara, and Daniel Menges of Pittsburgh, PA. Bernice was a graduate of Scotia High School. All of her friends knew her as Bernie. Bernie loved working in her yard and took special joy in her citrus trees. Her weekly activities with friends included golf, bowling, and playing cards. She also had a passion for traveling which took her camping, flying, and cruising around the U.S., Europe, and Israel. Another favorite pastime was cheering on her Tampa Bay Rays and Buccaneers. Her voice, her smile, and the sound of her laugh brought warmth to those who knew her. She was a wonderful and devoted wife and mother, and friend to all. Bernie will be greatly missed. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, February 19, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at the Catholic Community of St. Paul, 1330 Sunshine Ave., Leesburg, FL. Committal prayers and interment will follow at St. Peter & Paul’s Cemetery, Elmira, NY. Those wishing may remember Bernie with a donation to Cornerstone Hospice Foundation, 2445 Lane Park Road, Tavares, FL 32778 or The American Cancer Society. The family would like to thank the staff at North Campus Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Leesburg for their thoughtful, kind, and loving care of Bernice.
