An 81-year-old Villager was jailed Wednesday after an alleged attack on a tennis companion earlier this month at Tierra Del Sol Recreation Center.
Morris Hirsch Wolff was taken into custody at 11:45 a.m. Wednesday at his home at 657 Mullins Path in the Village of Mallory Square.
Wolff is accused of attacking a 77-year-old fellow tennis player on the morning of Oct. 6, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.
Wolff began arguing with the other player and threw a banana at him. Wolff then struck the man in the chest and face. When the man attempted to walk away, Wolff continued to “yell and cuss” at him, the arrest report said. Wolff threw a tennis racket at the man, striking him in the left arm.
During a subsequent interview with a deputy, the victim said Wolff “is a danger to the public due to his erratic and unstable behavior.”
Wolff was arrested after an altercation at the same tennis court on Feb. 1, 2017. While free on bond, Wolff returned three weeks later to the Tierra Del Sol courts in defiance of a trespass order. When deputies arrived on the scene, he demanded an attorney. He was arrested on a charge of trespassing.
Wolff was allowed to enter into a pre-trial diversion program, but apparently became such a problem he was booted from the program due to his “behavior,” according to a letter on file in Sumter County Court. The apparently frustrated prosecutor washed his hands of Wolff by offering him the chance pay a one-time fine of $450 and dropping the case.
Wolff was also arrested last month and charged with practicing law without a license.
He has also been convicted of family abuse in 1999 in Hawaii and disorderly conduct in 1991 in Georgia.
