81-year-old Villager ticketed in crash after shoe gets stuck on accelerator

An 81-year-old Villager was ticketed after her shoe got stuck on the accelerator of her vehicle, causing a three-vehicle accident in the parking lot at Rolling Acres Plaza.

Louise Albano of the Village of Silver Lake had been at the wheel of 2011 four-door Cadillac at about 3 p.m. Thursday when she proceeded through the posted stop sign without stopping, striking a utility vehicle driven by Larry Markwell, 55, of Lady Lake, according to an accident report from the Lady Lake Police Department.

Albano then reversed at a high rate of speed, striking a vehicle driven by 69-year-old Jerome Sacharski of Bay Village, Ohio.

Markwell was transported by ambulance to The Villages Regional Hospital.

Sacharski’s vehicle was towed from the scene by Kling Towing.

Albano was ticketed on a charge of failure to use due care. She told a police officer that her shoe got stuck on the car’s accelerator.

One person was transported from the scene of an accident Thursday afternoon at Rolling Acres Plaza.
