83-year-old Spruce Creeker scammed when told she’s winner of new Mercedes convertible

An 83-year-old resident of Del Webb Spruce Creek was scammed by someone telling her she was the winner of a new Mercedes convertible.

The woman received the call on Aug. 15 telling her she was the lucky winner of a lottery, according to an incident report from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. The woman was instructed to send an undisclosed amount of money in order to claim her prize.

When the convertible never showed up, the woman concluded she had been scammed.

She has since received additional calls, asking for more money for tax purposes.
