An 84-year-old Ocala man likely suffered a medical episode ahead of a fatal crash in Marion County.
David Gerard Hanson had been backing out of a private residence in a northerly direction at 2:30 p.m. Monday and struck a house, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol. His 2009 Toyota Scion then accelerated, traveled west on SW 60 Place and struck several mailboxes. It then continued west on SW 60 Place, struck a street sign and traveled across all four lanes of SW 60 Avenue. The vehicle then entered the west tree line and struck two trees with its front section. Hanson was pronounced dead at West Marion Hospital.
Information discovered during the investigation indicated that Hanson likely suffered a medical episode, the FHP report indicated.
