84-year-old Villager to escape prosecution after completing anger management course

George Clayton Duff

An 84-year-old Villager will escape prosecution in a criminal case after completing an anger management course.

George Clayton Duff was arrested on the night of June 17 after striking a woman in the head at his home in the Village of Summerhill. Sumter County sheriff’s deputies were called to the home on Berkshire Place, where a woman said she and Duff had been “arguing all day,” according to an arrest report. The argument turned physical when Duff struck her in the left temple. Duff admitted he “lost his temper,” the arrest report indicated. The woman said she did not want to press charges. Duff was taken into custody on a charge of battery.

Duff has since completed a four-hour anger management course and on Oct. 4 the prosecutor’s office announced the case had been dismissed.
