The election

Barry Evans
Barry Evans

Considering the time of year that we are in, it has been suggested that I write about the upcoming election.  I thought about that for about one second, and decided to let someone else do that – and there will be plenty who will.  In addition, I do not want to come down with Excedrin Headache #13 (Remember when that used to be a popular notation?).  Actually, I think the subject is in the same category as whether we are going to be hit with some more hurricanes.

The main difference between the two is that we know we are going to get hit with an election while it is only possible that a hurricane may hit us.  Neither one is that happy a subject.  In addition a hurricane will only effect a portion of the country while the elections will hit everyone.  The view of the damage of the election will naturally depend on who wins and who loses.  However, as I indicated I am not going to write about the election.

I am trying to think of a cheery happy subject on which to write.  I even looked in the sports section of various newspapers as well as the internet – and what do I see but that the Steelers’ star running back is being suspended for the first four games of the NFL season.  In addition, two of the Pirates up and coming pitchers that everyone has been waiting for are now injured.  I mean if you can’t get happy reading the sports pages what can you do?

So I mention to The Blonde in the house that we should look at the movie schedule to see if there were a happy movie playing.  Looking at the movie schedule in our house is not an easy thing to do as she likes one type of movies and I another.  I guess there was a happy movie on in “Finding Dory”, but I thought “Star Trek Beyond” would be happier.  I mean Captain Kirk always solves the problem – along with Spock – and the movie ends with everyone smiling and the Starship Enterprise goes sailing off into a multiple sunset.  On top of that Captain Kirk usually gets to kiss the girls!  The Blonde did not agree for some unknown reason -probably related to the flawed feminine logic system.

I mentioned a few weeks ago that I might write a book with the grandson of Bambi (Bambi III) and Lassie solving mysteries in the deep woods.  I noted that it would begin with Bambi III rescuing Lassie from a well.  I think that is a happy thought considering how many times Lassie rescued people from wells.  Their first mystery will involve determining how the Big Bad Wolf always has an abundance of lamb chops at his Friday barbeques.  If they get the evidence on the Wolf, it will certainly make Little Bo Peep and her sheep happy, and that is a start in making this a cheerful world.  It certainly is an improvement over the coming election about which I am not going to write.

What we need is fantasy in real time where Mandrake the Magician comes to life.  He would then hypnotize the entire world into thinking the next four years have passed and that we are in a completely new election process.  Of course, that process may also not be a cheerful one.  However, on the good side I won’t write about that  either!
