The Amenity Authority Committee has scheduled a special meeting next month to discuss the possible purchase of an old church building.
The AAC has been looking at the possible purchase of the former home of the First Baptist Church located off County Road 42 in Marion County. The building, currently used as a fellowship hall, could be retrofitted to become a new recreation center.
The AAC will discuss the matter in a workshop session at 9 a.m. March 3 at Savannah Center. A price has not been divulged, but it is possible that price could surface during the March 3 meeting.
The Marion County section of The Villages will soon see the construction of hundreds of new courtyard villas. Residents have already complained about overcrowding at recreation centers in that part of The Villages. The purchase of the church is seen as a way to satisfy demand.
