Who has the advantage in the first presidential debate?

The first presidential debate between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump will be held Monday evening at  Hofstra University in Hempstead, N.Y.

The moderator will be Lester Holt, anchor of NBC Nightly News.

Who will have the edge in the first debate? Will it be Clinton, a self-confessed policy wonk imersed in decades of policy discussion? Or will it be Trump, who glided to victory in the GOP primary with his off-the-cuff remarks.

The Villages Democratic Club will host a debate watch party  Monday evening at Colony Cottage Recreation Center from 8 – 10:30 p.m. A suggested $5 donation is requested and popcorn and coffee will be provided, but BYOB and snacks if you prefer.

The  debate will be divided into six time segments of approximately 15 minutes each on major topics to be selected by the moderator. The moderator will open each segment with a question, after which each candidate will have two minutes to respond. Candidates will then have an opportunity to respond to each other. The moderator will use the balance of the time in the segment for a deeper discussion of the topic.
