Affluent Villages should not rely on FEMA

To the Editor:

I see no good reason why the affluent Villages needs to resort to FEMA “welfare” for storm cleanup! This is a waste of federal dollars that should go to more needy areas rather than here. Local landscapers, Waste Management, or CH2MHILL could have provided cleanup at The Villages expense.  Residents kick in about $10,000,000 a month in maintenance and amenity fees. Wouldn’t that be sufficient to clean up the place even quicker than FEMA? The Villages doesn’t need welfare!
