‘Affordable’ nursing degree to be offered at Lake-Sumter State College

Lake-Sumter State College received approval from the State Board of Education to offer a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree.

“I am very appreciative of the State Board of Education for approving Lake-Sumter State College’s BSN degree,” said Stanley Sidor, president of LSSC. “Our BSN degree meets Governor Scott’s $10,000 degree challenge and will allow us to offer an affordable degree with a great employment outlook. We are seeing tremendous population growth in Lake and Sumter counties and our healthcare systems are also growing to meet that demand.”

LSSC intends to start enrolling students in the first BSN cohort starting August 2018. Additional enrollment details will provided in the coming months.

Central Florida Health is among area healthcare providers offering its support for the program.
“It is essential that we continue to support the development of educational pathways that will prepare the next generation of healthcare professionals,” said Don Henderson, President and CEO of Central Florida Health, the not-for-profit parent company of Leesburg Regional Medical Center and The Villages Regional Hospital. “The addition of a BSN program through Lake Sumter State College represents a major step in the right direction and will ensure that organizations like ours will be able to continue to provide high-quality medical care to the communities we serve.”

Lake-Sumter State College, Valencia College, Eastern Florida State College and Seminole State College of Florida have worked collaboratively with the University of Central Florida to develop BSN degree programs at each institution.
