Alleged shoplifter puts up fight after reportedly trying to steal IZOD shorts from Beall’s

A 28-year-old woman was arrested Thursday after she allegedly attempted to take two pairs of IZOD shorts, two pairs of Nike socks and five necklaces from Beall’s without paying for them.

Jessica Leeann Abrams was physically resisting a loss prevention officer at the store on U.S. Hwy. 441 in Lady Lake when a Sumter County sheriff’s deputy arrived on the scene at 6:56 p.m. Thursday. The deputy handcuffed Abrams upon arrival. She then admitted to the deputy that she had placed the items in her purse and tried to leave the store with them.

She was arrested on charges of petit theft and resisting a merchant. She was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center on $1,500 bond.
