A woman who bills herself as “America’s Psychologist and Relationship Coach” was arrested this weekend on a drunk driving charge at the Waterfront Inn.
Anne-Renee Testa, a practicing psychologist in New York City who has appeared on the “Today” show, was questioned by a Sumter County sheriff’s deputy after a complaint had been received shortly after 7 p.m. Saturday of a reckless driver at the hotel at Lake Sumter Landing. The deputy found Testa, author of “The Bully in Your Relationship,” seated in the driver’s seat, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. A man was also in the car with her.
The deputy asked Testa if she had been drinking and she said she had consumed two glasses of wine.
When the deputy demonstrated field sobriety exercises and asked her if she understood prior to being asked to perform them, Testa replied, “Of course, I understand, I am not an idiot.” She failed the exercises.
When the deputy began to handcuff her, she asked him “Do you know who I am?”
She said the deputy was being “ridiculous” and she threatened to contact the media.
On the way to the Sumter County Detention Center, she said, “I only had three drinks and my fans will love this.”
She provided breath samples that registered .181 and .174 blood alcohol content.
She was booked at the jail and released the next morning after posting $1,000 bond.
According to the Sumter County Property Appraiser’s Office, Testa purchased property in May on Lake Miona Way in Oxford.
