Revitalization of homes on Historic Side continues to benefit Town of Lady Lake

The revitalization and annexation of homes on the Historic Side of The Villages continues to provide an economic boost to the Town of Lady Lake.

Fifty-three homes have been annexed since 2015. There are several others in the process of being annexed.

On Monday, the Lady Lake Planning and Zoning Board approved the annexation of additional properties at:

• 813 Truman Avenue

809  Aloha Way

• 806  Maple Lane

• 820 Silver Oak Avenue

Signs indicate that this property is being considered for annexation into the Town of Lady Lake.

The Villages has been removing old manufactured homes on the Historic Side and replacing them with site-built homes at a brisk pace. At the same time, The Villages is annexing those homes into the Town of Lady Lake.

Lady Lake has been a benefactor of this revitalization effort by The Villages.

Years ago, residents of The Villages’ section of Lady Lake were given the choice of whether to annex into Lady Lake. Those who didn’t annex in, remained part of Lake County. However, those homeowners still receive services such as police and parks and recreation even though they don’t pay taxes to Lady Lake. The “enclaves” included more than 700 homes in The Villages’ section of Lady Lake/Lake County.

Through annexation, the homes are now being added to Lady Lakes tax rolls. The new homes are also more valuable than the manufactured homes they replaced.

Though it’s too early to tell how much of an economic benefit it will be to the town, it could be significant over time.
