A 33,100-square-foot assisted living and memory care facility to be built at 930 Alverez Avenue has been given a green light by the Lady Lake Commission.
However, at least one resident of Vista Sonoma Villas, spoke out about his concerns about traffic and noise during Tuesday’s special commission meeting.
Titan Assisted Living Facility and Memory Care Center is to be built across the street from Vista Sonoma Villas where David Olsen lives.
“You are squeezing in a 94-bed facility into much smaller acreage than what we are situated on,” Olsen said of the 2.33 acres on which the facility will be built. He said the villas are located on a little more than four acres.
He also said that paired with the Sharon L. Morse Performing Arts Center being constructed in Spanish Springs Town Square, he fears the increase in traffic and accompanying noise.
Olsen also said he is concerned the location of the assisted living facility near Vista Sonoma Villas will drive down his property value.
However, Marty Dzuro of The Villages, said the three-story facility is designed so all deliveries and service traffic will be routed to the rear of the facility.
Irwin King, head of the Vista Sonoma homeowners association, said he appreciated the fact that representatives of The Villages had met with homeowners about the project and listened to their concerns.
All five commissioners indicated they were in favor of the facility.
