A fire ripped through a Village of Hillsborough home early Wednesday morning.
The blaze broke out at about 2 a.m., said Villages Fire Chief Mike Tucker.
“It is believed to be electrical in nature,” Tucker said.
In addition to gutting the house on Viscaya Court in New Haven Villas, it melted the vinyl siding on a nearby home.
Sumter County Fire Rescue provided assistance in fighting the fire.
The fire awoke neighbor Thomas Lawrenson.
“It was enormous,” Lawrenson said.
The occupants of the house got out safely. Lawrenson described them as a younger couple and said they were renters.
