Brooklyn man arrested after restaurant staff tries to prevent him from driving golf cart

James Edward May

A Brooklyn man was arrested after staffers at a Villages restaurant tried to prevent him from driving away in a golf cart.

Police were called at about 6 p.m. Thursday to Amerikanos Grille at Spanish Springs Town Square after James E. May, 43, caused a scene when the staffers attempted to persuade him not to drive away in the golf cart.

May was “visibly intoxicated,” according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department. The police officer who patrols the square also tried to intervene, but May was belligerent and cursed. When the police officer attempted to restrain May, he resisted.

The police officer had to put May to the ground and then handcuffed him.

May was arrested on charges of disorderly intoxication and resisting arrest.

He was booked at the Lake County Jail. Bond was set at $1,500.
