Central Florida League Joel Beason Memorial Tournament Results

Central Florida League winter 2017 season came to an end this past week with the conclusion of the Joel Beason Memorial Tournament.

First round action saw number 5 seed Arden defeat number 12 Fross & Fross 20-8.

Contributing three hits each were: Bob Cramer, Mark Hildebrand, Tom Farrell, John Meindl, and Mike DiMaio. Adding two hits for the winners were: George Kennedy, Jim Crabtree, Gene Gurierro, John Ashby, and Bill Reed. Fross & Fross had three hits from lead off batter, Ralph Furbush, and Al DuBuc; with two each by Dave Pope and Terry Yanny.

Number 6 IHOP bested Babiarz in a rematch of their game from the week before.

IHOP scored 16 runs with lead off batter, Rich Bergman, stroking three hits. Adding two hits each were: Will Kutter, Bob DePace, Tom Bent, Wayne Mallory, Jack Finley, John Hoover, and manager, Jack Nesci. Babiarz manage only six hits with Ed Moriarity getting two and scoring their only run on a sacrifice fly from Craig Dahlquist in the first inning.

Buffalo Crossing held on to defeat CarePlus 7-6.

Ed Chirumbolo, John Leone, and sub, Bruce Harlan had two hits each for the winners. Howard Charney had a two run homer in the 6th to put Buffalo Crossing ahead 7-3. CarePlus score three runs in the top of the seventh when it’s first four batters reached base. Subs Gary Luck and Jeff Bekasi each drove in a run before Manny Sanchez made the final out. Ed Niles, Dale Neff, Tom Bortle and Bekasi all had two hits.

Synergy Wealth reached the round of eight by besting FBC Mortgage 13-10.

Jim Creed and Rick Fredieu led Synergy with four hits; while Vinny Pezzullo and Dave Williams added three hits. FBC Mortgage got three hits by Rick Murgittroyd and Dan MacPherson ; and, two apiece from: Rocky Spottswood, Tim Wilcox, Mike Bernbach, Jim Joseph, and Ron Parson.

In the round of eight the higher seeds prevailed except when number 5 Arden Jewelers defeated number 4 Softball’s R Game 19-11.

Arden had four hits each from Rod Severson and Tom Farrell; while Bill Reed and Bob Cramer had three hits. John Meindl had a homer and a double to drive in 2 runs. Softball’s R Game got four hits from Jim Ritchie and Jerry Jensen. Scott Marshall and Jim Stencil stroked three hits in the loss.

IHOP ran out of hits and fell to Harlan Insurance 5-1.

Only Jack Finley and WIll Kutter managed to get more than one hits off of Bruce Harlan. Harlan scored three runs in the bottom of the 6th to secure the win. Charles Clare, Jim Morton, and Ken Atkinson had a pair of hits in the win.

Number two seed Paul Davis Restorations defeated Buffalo Crossing 16-7.

Bob Kelly and Bob Buchanan had four hits and Paul Schaffer and Jack Nagle were also perfect on the day with three hits each. Tom Ramberg drove in four runs with two sacrifice flies and a pair of hits. Buffalo Crossing got three hits from Jim Wiegand and sub, Mike Bernbach. Bob Holbert, Ed Chirumbolo, Peter Davidson, and Jerry Street all had two hits.

Synergy Wealth lost to number one seed Palm Ridge Dental 20-8.

Palm Ridge used a balanced offense to generate 24 hits. Mike Jeffries, Pat Perkins, Ed DeMaio, Gary Luck, Dana Lambillotte, Ken Scanlon, Bob Jacques, and sub, Rocky Spottswood all had two hits. Gary Nicolay nad John Goulet had three hits each and drove in three runs each. Synergy had three hits including a home run from Jim Creed in the lead off spot. Vinny Pezzullo and Jim Meyer were the only other Synergy batters to get more than one hit as they each hit a pair.

The semi-finals saw Palm Ridge Dental defeat Arden Jewelers 22-8 and Harlan Insurance best Paul Davis Restorations 15-12.

Gary Nicolay led Palm Ridge with four hits. Mike Jeffries and George Loew had three hits each while John Goulet, Gary Luck, Dana Lambillotte, Ken Scanlon, Bob Jacques and sub, Dave Hinkley all had a pair of hits. Arden’s Bob Cramer had three hits and Mark Hildebrand, John Ashby, Jim Crabtee, and Doug St.Andrews had two hits each.

Harlan Insurance got three hits by Charles Clare, Jim Morton, Ken Atkinson, Ed Shirk, Bud Ramsey, and Vinny Caso. Bruce Harlan and David Blandford added a pair of hits for the winners. Paul Davis got two hits each from: Bob Kelly, Jeff Bekasi, Bob Buchanan, Tom Ramberg, Bill Nisbet, Chick Cicatelli, and Jack Nagle.

The tournament final saw Palm Ridge Dental defeat Harlan Insurance 14-8.

Gary Nicolay led Palm Ridge with a double and a home run to drive in four runs. Dana Lambillotte had a homer and a hit to drive in two runs. Pat Perkins had three hits and John Goulet and Ed DeMaio each had a pair of hits. Harlan Insurance had three hits by Ken Atkinson, David Blandford, and Bud Ramsey. Adding a pair of hits were: Charles Clare, Ed Shirk, Chuck Bowman, Don Melcher, and Bruce Harlan.

The Central Florida League returns to softball action on May the 9th.
