Central Florida League Winter 2017 Week 11 Highlights

This past week in the Central Florida League saw yet another tie for first place as four teams have identical 7-3 records.

Paul Davis Restorations took control of their chance to win the league championship by defeating last week’s league leader Softball’s R Game 20-19.

Manager, Jeff Bekasi drove in the winning run in the bottom of the seventh as Paul Davis scored 6 runs to overtake SRG. Tom Ramberg and Bill Nisbet led their squad with four hits each. Bekasi, Bob Buchanan, and sub pitcher, John Ashby, contributed three hits apiece. Vin Stebbins drove in five runs with a single, triple and sacrifice fly. Doug Nantais added five runs with a double and a single. Softball’s R Game got four hits from Ed Krisha, Nark Schiffhauer, and Scott Marshall. Jim Stencil, Jim Ritchie, Paul Isenberg, manager, Jack Marx, and sub Rick Duemler all had three hits. Paul Davis turned four double plays to help end SRG innings.

Palm Ridge Dental stayed in the race for first by besting CFL CarePlus 17-11.

Palm Ridge had three hit days by Mike Jeffries, Gary Luck, and Pat Perkins. John Goulet, Ed Haith, Gary Nicolay, George Loew each added a pair of hits. Ed DeMaio drove in three runs with a sacrifice fly and a solo homer. The CFL CarePlus team was led by three hit days from: Tom Brock, Chuck Alexander, Ed Niles, and Mike Labetti. Manny Sanchez, Dennis Bauch, Dale Neff, and Leroy Yoder all chipped in with a pair of hits.

Harlan Insurance returns to the first place mix with a 19-13 win over Fross & Fross.

Harlan was led by four hits from Ken Atkinson, including a three run homer in the first. Charles Clare and sub, John Wyks, had three hits. Jim Morton, Ed Shirk, Chuck Bowman, and David Blandford had a pair of hits each. Blandford had a two run homer and a double driving in three runs for Harlan. Fross & Fross lead off man, Ralph Furbush drove in two runs with a homer in the second. Others with two hits on the day were: Jack Meagher, Gary DePalma, Dave Pope, Paul Justice, Terry Yanny, Tim Healey, Duane Miller, and sub, Ron Goldman.

Arden Jewelers chance to move into first place suffered a setback as they loss to Humana 9-6.

Humana got three hits from Jim Kitzler and a pair each from: Jim Gordon, Maury Fjestad, and sub, Will Kutter. Arden was led by Tom Farrell’s three hits while Bill Reed, Bob Cramer, and Mike DiMaio added a pair of hits each in the loss.

IHOP’s chance to gain ground on the league leaders was halted by Buffalo Crossing who won 10-8.

Buffalo got three hits from Ed Chirumbolo and Jerry Street. Bob Holbert, Howard Charney, Peter Davidson, Roger Duncan, and manager, John Leone, all contributed two hits for the winners. IHOP pitcher, Jim Lambert, led his team with three hits driving in four runs. Lead off batter, Rich Bergman, also had three hits while, Bobbie DePace, Tom Bent, and Wayne Mallory had a pair of hits. Mallory led off the 4th inning with a solo homer.

The other close game of the day saw FBC Mortgage come back with seven runs in the bottom of the seventh to overtake Synergy Wealth 20-19. 

FBC was led by Rocky Spottwood’s four hits and three hits each by: John Barracato, Rick Murgittroyd, Tim Wilcox, Ed Konopka, and Phil Palma. Synergy Wealth took the lead in the top of the fourth as they plated five runs with Rick Fredieu driving the last two with a home run. They continued to lead with another five runs in the fifth with Jim Creed getting a grand slam homer. Besides, Creed, Rick Duemler, Vinny Pezzullo, and Roy Warter all had three hits. Dave Williams drove in three runs with a single and a sacrifice fly.

This Tuesday will be the last regular season game with the post season tournament commencing on April 4th.

Lack of understanding about customer’s need to change golf cart rental

In a Letter to the Editor, a resident of the Chula Vista Villas said she received little understanding when she need to rent a golf cart but learned her own cart had been repaired sooner than anticipated.

A Village of Hadley resident recently played an executive golf course that had earned a B- grade in a recent report grade. He says the golf course now deserves a failing grade.
