CFL 2017 summer highlights week 8

The Central Florida League returned to action this week following the 4th of July holiday.

FBC Mortgage knocked off Synergy Wealth and dropped them out of first place.

FBC scored 24 runs on 34 hits in the day’s slug fest. FBC lead off batter Ron Parson had five hits while Ed Haith, Tim Wilcox, and Chuck Alexander added four hits each. Ron Goldman, John Barracato, and Mike Labetti had three hits. Synergy Wealth smacked 24 hits and scored 12 runs. Bob Buchanan, Bill Reed, Vernon Brooks, and Rick Duemler stroked three hits each to pace Synergy. Adding two hits apiece were: Dave Pope, Jeff Bekasi, George Kennedy, Bill Naasz, and Jim Gordon.

Softball’s R Game took control of first place with a 10-5 win over Palm Ridge Dental.

SRG scored 4 runs in the first, 3 in the fourth and sixth innings to build up a 10-2 lead going into the top of the seventh. Palm Ridge Dental scored three runs as they attempted to make a comeback; but, fell short. SRG was led by two each each by: Bill Nisbet, Rocky Spottswood, Ed Krisha, and Dennis Bauch. Gary Nicolay had a key hit in the first, while Jack Meagher and Dan Kincaid had key hits in the fourth. Jack Marx and Bob DePace had key hits in the sixth. Palm Ridge Dental got two hits from: Rod Severson, Paul Justice, Ralph Furbush, Paul Isenberg, Vinny Caso, and Ken Scanlon. Caso had a triple to drive in two of the three runs in the seventh. John Goulet drove in Palm Ridge Dental’s first run with a single in the first.

After five straight losses, CarePlus won its third game of the season defeating Gators Brownwood 11-7.

Mark Goodwin and Dave Oatley paced the CarePlus offense with three hits each. Chipping in two hits apiece were: Manny Sanchez, Tom Winegarden, and Jim Wiegand. Gators got four hits by Pat Perkins and three by Wayne Grunewald. Two hits each came from: Ray Bedford and sub, Ed Moriarity.

Fall season signups are underway and continue until July 25th.

There are truly wonderful people in The Villages
